Last year my garden budget was just over $110 and this year it was $30. I had to make some choices. I bought less but filled the rest of the bed in with items from a friend and more peppers as a gift from my Daddy.
I've have quite a lot of little characters in our garden this year including frogs. One day while Daddy and I were working out in the bed I saw a baby frog! I picked him up, got a picture and told him that he needed to go back to the pond. I took him over, placed him down and walked back to the bed, two mins later found another one hopping around, then it happened again. By the end we had 5 lil guys that were escorted out!
A couple of days later my dad said he found something I should see. I came over and sure enough hiding under my Boxwood Basil and was this guy/gal! It made me wonder if he/she was the Dad/Mom of all the little babies! If so I feel really bad! :(
This year my tomatoes have gotten out of control and I love it! Last Month - they looked like this!
This week they looked like this - It took two of us to contain them, literally! We collected anything we could fine to stick in the ground (to hold it up) some string and tried hard to hold up all the 'fallen over' branches to contain it! Oh Boy! Glad that's done! The plant has over 35 yellow flowers on it and tons that are already green. Oh boy... look at that plant!
~Boxwood basil usually looks like this!~
~This is my Boxwood!~
It reseeded it self at the end of last year and usually when it does that it grows in 3-10 times as big. I could not get over how much has grown in and how huge the leaves are! I have cut over 10 stems of the basil and used it for pesto and to top burgers and still have so very much left!
I picked my first green pepper from my garden. It's a little deformed but smelled and tasted absolutely fantastic. I used it in an omelet! Also in this photo is some of my regular basil. I have three types this year! I also got in my second little tomato! It was delish!
I had to end of bad note but sadly this year a little critter came along and ate my strawberries. It was the first year that I have had them in the ground. I felt so bad because Daddy worked so hard to get them a perfect 'bed' but we did get to eat about 15 of them before this happened. Below is a photo of the first two of the season. They were so sweet! :)
If you have a garden as well, I hope it is flourishing! I will probably go another garden post around the end of August with an update on my peppers and tomatoes... and what I made with them! ;) I already have some ideas in mind! I am going to make the raspberry jalapeno jam again real soon too!
