Jeff Mathes (who daddy taught in High School), is the managing partner of Due Amici and Barrio Tapas Restaurant, says he is transforming the space, located at 132 E. Fifth Ave., into a “neo-existential lounge with a French bohemian flair” called Bar L’étranger. Bar L’étranger just opened last Thursday and guess who got to go? We got dressed up and we were off.
We loved the atmosphere there. It used to be another Bar and they changed a decent amount of it before re-opening. I love how they stuck three light figtures in the same corner.
I sat in another corner (with Tommy) on a cute little love seat. To my right was this bird cage.
In front of us was this three oval-ed mirror. We both liked it a lot but agreed that we would have no where in our house to ever put it!

We had a lot of fun while we were there. We talked to Chris (manager of Due Amici) who we see all of the time and dinned with some wines and a cheese and fish platter. We are actually going to Due Amici tonight with some friends! Tommy and I would defiantly recommend all three of Jeff's places! You have to go check out Bar L’étranger. It's a great bar to hang out at, eat or even just stop by and get a drink while you're downtown. When you go make sure to let us know what you think. Make sure to try the house Chardonnay!
