~In Memory of Jack~
MASON Jack LeRoy Mason age 79, died Thursday, December 31, 2009. Jack was the son of John Roy Mason and Marie Frances Steigerwald. He was born in Cleveland on June 29, 1930, and moved to Columbus when he was eight years old. He lived on Irving Way in Clintonville for sixty-four years, until the end of 2002. He was proud to have graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1949. Jack met the challenges of his life humbly and cheerfully. His memory for names, dates, and numbers was prodigious, and until very recently he was able to recall family events from many years past and recite baseball statistics with ease. Baseball was his favorite sport, but he followed the Browns and the Steelers, too. Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and a big heart. He made friends wherever he went: he loved to socialize with his Clintonville neighbors, with his fellow parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church, and with the residents and staff at Whetstone Gardens. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Eileen Mason McGraner. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Mason Hall, five nieces, Kathleen McGraner, Molly McGraner, Joan Weaver (Richard), Margaret Williams (David), Beth Witherell (Michael), and a nephew, Stephen Hall (Teresa). His cousin Albert Stohrer and Albert's wife Kathleen, and his friends Jean Durbin, Ellen Miller and Mary Pollick were especially important to Jack and his family. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5, at 10:15 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 E. North Broadway, Columbus, OH 43214. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Immaculate Conception Church would be welcome. Arrangements by SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL.
